Día Mundial del Síndrome de Down 2024
El síndrome de Down es una alteración genética que se produce en el momento de la concepción y se caracteriza por encontrarse tres copias del cromosoma 21; por esto que se le conoce también como trisomía 21.
Es importante aclarar que esta condición no es una enfermedad, tampoco existen grados de síndrome de Down, la presencia de esta alteración se produce en cada persona de forma muy variable. Las personas con síndrome de Down muestran algunas características comunes pero cada individuo es singular, con una apariencia, personalidad y habilidades únicas.
Cuando se realiza una estimulación desde los primeros años de vida se facilita la adquisición de habilidades sociales, físicas y cognitivas que permitirá disfrutar los beneficios de la inclusión a lo largo de su vida.
Es por ello que bajo el lema mundial “Eliminar los estereotipos”, la Fundación síndrome de Down del Caribe - Fundown Caribe en el marco del Día Mundial del síndrome de Down el próximo 21 de marzo, se suma a desarrollar una serie de acciones que están encaminadas a derribar mitos y creencias que se tienen sobre esta condición.
